Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is an appointed group of individuals that holds overall legal responsibility for the management of the Archdiocese of Mbarara and provides strategic oversight for the University of Saint Joseph Mbarara.
Powers and Functions
The Board of Trustees exercises comprehensive authority over the University of Saint Joseph Mbarara, ensuring alignment with the Archdiocese's vision and maintaining institutional integrity.
Core Responsibilities
Institutional Identity & Vision
- Maintain the instruments of identity of the University
- Protect and oversee the vision, mission, philosophy and achieve University objectives
- Promote the image of the University through representation in high-profile engagements
Governance & Appointments
- Appoint or remove from office members of the Council in accordance with University Statutes
- Appoint or remove the Chancellor
- Appoint or remove the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor(s) on recommendation of the University Council
Strategic Planning
- Approve long-term strategic plans for the University
- Mobilize resources of the University
- Appoint the University's External Auditors
Oversight & Reporting
- Receive the annual budget and Audited Accounts approved by the University Council and take appropriate action where necessary
- Receive reports and briefs of the Council on the operation and progress of the University from time to time
- Visit the University as and when necessary to give guidance to the University governance organs
Strategic Oversight
The Board holds overall legal responsibility for the management of the Archdiocese of Mbarara and ensures proper governance of USJM.
Actively works to secure funding and resources necessary for the University's development and sustainability.
Regularly reviews performance of governance bodies and management to ensure alignment with institutional goals.
Represents the University in high-profile engagements and maintains relationships with key stakeholders.
